Meeting Minutes September 15, 2021

NCIFT Board Meeting
Wednesday September 15th at 5:00 PM

Parastoo called the meeting to order at 5:07 PM

  • Review survey results – extend survey? Leadership team decided not to extend the survey time. The survey is officially closed. With 10% response.
  • Budget review and approval Parastoo motioned to approve the budget, Board voted to approve. We have 30k toward our suppliers night goal but need another 60k from sponsors/booths
  • Proposed 21-22 NCIFT calendar (below)
    • Four main areas: Add events in Central Valley as part of NCIFT obligations
      • i. Reno
        • 1. Monin 9/22, and one tentative in Nov Hoping for one more event in first half of 2022.
      • ii. North Bay (Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Yolo, Solano, Sacramento Counties)
        • 1. Networking collaboration with NextGenChef and TraceTrust week of 10/11
        • 2. Looking for November 2021 event
      • iii. East Bay (Contra Costa, Alameda, San Joaquin, Stanislaus Counties)
        • 1. Looking for October 2021 event
      • iv. Peninsula/ South Bay (San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara Counties)
        • 1. New Professionals Group – event 9/30 in Santa Clara
        • 2. Alton Brown show Nov15/2021 (group rate tickets)
  • 4. NCIFT holiday party (Thurs Dec 9/2021)
    • a. Location (Callippe Preserve, Pleasanton) NCIFT member who is a resident of Pleasanton is eligible for a discount.
    • b. 80th anniversary
    • c. IFT national virtual speaker and 2 emeritus member speakers
    • d. UC Davis raffle, should we make this a combine fundraiser between two universities. Group decided not to change and like previous years leave it to UC Davis students.
    • e. Recognition of leadership retirement
    • f. Slideshow
  • 5. Speaker/ topics for Processing Expo February 15-16th in Sacramento
    • a. Candidates:
      • i. Bruce Friedrich from the Good Food Institute
      • ii. Chris Rufer, president of Morningstar/Liberty Packing
      • iii. Olgica Bakajin (CEO Porifera, Inc.) Olgica has said yes and will likely be the speaker
    • b. Expo table volunteers (3-4)
      • i. Erin Evers has volunteered to lead the Expo table Matthew and Carol volunteered to help at the table
  • 6. Campus event (Spring 2022) Event options are still limited due to Covid
    • a. San Jose State University: Poster competition, Speaker Ashwini volunteered to help with poster competition
    • b. UC Davis: Food Science & Technology Award
    • c. Chico State University: TBD

Reminder to officers to send bio and photo to Jamie for upcoming Hornblower
Everyone is encouraged to write and submit an article to Hornblower.
