I. JOB TITLE: Food Technologist

Role:
This position will be responsible for new innovation and maintenance and enhancement of existing products in the tortilla category.  The individual will  interact directly with operations, finance, sales and marketing regarding all aspects of the new product development.  Extensive interfacing with manufacturing is required during the project implementation phase and when executing cost savings projects.  Emphasis on the ability to operate independently and be highly adaptable to change.

II.  Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Food Science, Cereal Science or related discipline.
  • Strong bakery product development and formulation experience.
  • Must have the ability to manage new and multiple projects from conception to commercialization.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fresh/frozen baked goods preferred.
  • Must have a basic understanding of nutritional information and label declaration.
  • Must have basic understanding of regulatory compliance with governmental agencies. 
  • Must have proficient communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Management/supervisory experience a plus.    
  • Must have proficient math skills.
  • Must have proficient analytical skills.
  • Must have proficient problem solving skills.
  • Must have proficient time management and organizational skills.

IV.  Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fully responsible for the development and implementation of new products, both from customer and marketing requests using internal and external resources.  This includes developing new project processes and parameters.
  • Fully responsible for the interpretation of customer product requirements.
  • Manage shelf life testing process. Gather, validate, and manage data entry for each shelf life test that is conducted by R&D. Share results with all involved in each project.
  • Manage/Oversee product testing, including the pre-batching of ingredients.
  • Manage the “Plant Test Form” for each test.  Document and record results. Update database and maintain hard copies with accurate and current information.
  • Responsible for monitoring and validating the manufacturing process during plant tests.
  • Fully responsible for the complete analysis of Finished Products after plant test is completed while recording the information in the appropriate systems or files using scientific and food related knowledge.
  • Responsible for preparing products for sensory evaluations. Completing and updating records with pertinent information.
  • Understand and develop nutritional information and label declarations as well as regulatory compliance with governmental agencies by researching and confirming the information.
  • Responsible for identifying target product formulations, prototype development, on-site commercialization at the manufacturing site, and preparation of all technical documentation by direct interfacing with the sales and marketing team.
  • Provide technical services to customers in conjuction with Sales and Marketing using scientific and food related knowledge.
  • Develop an extensive understanding of existing production capabilities at selected sites.
  • Fully responsible for the execution of line extensions, cost optimization, and quality improvements.
  • Participate in New Concept Development programs.
  • Develop, complete and update external customer specifications, new product information and internal specifications and technical data sheets.

V.  Working Conditions

  • Will work in front of a computer for a period of time, continual walking and standing on hard surfaces, climbing and descending steps.
  • Continual bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposed to cool, hot temperatures and noise.
  • Will be required to work modified schedules including weekends and overtime when and as needed based on R&D activity.
  • Less than 10% travel.

POSITION SUMMARY -

Family-owned Semifreddi’s Bakery is in search of a full time Maintenance Supervisor. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee ongoing projects and daily activities to ensure their timely and efficient completion. This person will assist in directing daily activities of all assigned maintenance personnel and assist the Plant Engineer with improving manufacturing efficiencies for Semifreddi’s. This position will provide support to the Engineer by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • Ensure repairs, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment for 24/7 production operations

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on motors, hydraulic and pneumatic components, conveyor systems, and production machines as needed.

  • Review work requests to determine work priorities. Generate work orders.

  • Maintain parts and material inventory.

  • Drive continuous improvement of the Preventative Maintenance program.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized maintenance shop.

  • Oversee plant Tool Control program.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • Lead and develop plant maintenance staff.

  • Responsibilities includes but not limited to assisting in planning, assigning, and directing work; provide constructive feedback to direct reports; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; interview, hire, and train employees; address complaints and work with human resources to resolve issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE –

  • 3+ years of maintenance related experience in a manufacturing environment including electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic systems repair.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of leadership experience supervising a team of 3-5 employees.

  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software).

  • Familiarity with industrial electrical systems.

  • High school diploma or GED is required. Technical school training in maintenance area is highly desired.

LANGUAGE SKILLS -

  • English proficiency: ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors and customers.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The VP of Operations plays a key strategic role as business partner to the management team charged with implementing best practices needed to support the organization’s growth in dry grain processing, milling & packaging and ready-to-eat grain applications. InHarvest supplies national foodservice and retail customers as well as both national and international industrial customers. The VP of Operations will need to organize and lead the manufacturing and supply chain team which includes inventory management to meet the needs of our diverse customers by fostering an environment of performance excellence.  The VP of Operations will partner with peers in sales, finance, culinary, human resources and food safety & quality assurance to achieve the goals of the company.

The VP of Operations will lead and direct the current facilities in Woodland CA, Colusa CA and Bemidji MN. Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to, production planning and scheduling, productivity, process and mechanical engineering, maintenance and repair, equipment specification and OEM vendor sourcing and selection, supply chain (purchasing, grower relations & logistics), manufacturing (Parboiling, Blending, Cleaning & Packaging).

  • Experience leading organizational transformation projects and business development.
  • Past management experience of diverse activities with a large group of employees.

  • Food processing industry and/or agricultural commodites experience is required. Speciality Food along with a diverse background is a plus.
  • Experience effectively implementing and utilizing information systems that create operational efficiencies and better information, is highly valued.

  • IQF/Copack/Retort and/or co-manufacturing experience is a strong plus.

About the Role

You will be responsible for implementing assays to characterize functional properties of our proprietary ingredients as it relates to food product performance.   • Investigate and assess new ingredients and technologies for product improvements 
  • Design and execute experiments to systematically characterize functional properties such as but not limited to solubility, gelation, emulsification, rheology etc. of plant based ingredients and their performance in target product applications. 
  • Create prototypes with identified protein as part of new product development projects
  • Design, coordinate and conduct sensory studies

  • Keep systematic and thorough records to support internal clients, external clients and intellectual property strategy

About You
Education & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and statistical analyses
  • Experience with analytical tools such as texture analyzer, rheometer, laser diffraction particle size analysis, optical microscopy is a plus
  • Familiarity with CGMP and basic principles of food safety. Awareness of FDA Code of Federal regulations for standards of identity and food labeling

Position Description

The Senior Sanitation Supervisor is responsible to lead the sanitation program and supporting personnel to ensure overall cleanliness of the Semifreddi’s bakery in Alameda, CA. This person reports directly to the Food Safety Manager to support Semifreddi’s food safety program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Primary point person for all bakery sanitation activities
  • Supervise and motivate sanitation workers to perform sanitation tasks of all equipment and bakery areas according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and GMP requirements
  • Performs post-sanitation inspection of bakery areas, equipment, and parts
  • Responsible for hands-on sanitation training for new and current workers
  • Ensure master sanitation schedule (MSS) tasks are completed on-time, documentation is taking place, and program is updated as needed
  • Write, review, and update sanitation SOP’s as needed
  • Ensure workers follow human safety requirements and PPEs when handling chemicals to perform sanitation tasks
  • Works closely with Food Safety manager to support all 3 rd party, customer, and regulatory audits
  • Reviews Integrated Pest Management (IPM) results to ensure that sanitation activities result in minimal pest findings
  • Manage documentation for housekeeping checklists, MSS, sanitation training, and others
  • Proactively identify food safety risks that can be addressed with sanitation program improvements
  • Provide on-going sanitation communication and recommendations to food safety manager and Semifreddi’s management team
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with both management and sanitation workers

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong ability to direct and lead a team of sanitation bakery workers
  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or bakery facility
  • Ability to work during sanitation shift (9pm-5:30am) with ability to work flexible hours as needed

Position Summary:

The Food Scientist manages the new product prototype development process and manages all aspects of test kitchen operation.  Additionally, develops product performance measurement systems, providing statistical basis for decision making and maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that works effectively with customers, clients, coworkers, and leadership teams.  The Food Scientist drives process improvement and problem solving utilizing continuous improvement, rational thinking, and collaboration to innovation of new products, improved efficiencies, processes, product/process optimizations and cost savings initiatives.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Accountable for all R&D activities of projects from competitive analysis, ideation, development, regulatory, commercialization through continuous improvements and optimizations/cost reductions.

  2. Ensures key steps in the product development process, including costs, food safety, HACCP/quality assurance, product formulations, operational feasibility, specification management and technical details for plant trials. Develop bench-top prototypes and assist in the execution of plant trials/product scale-up research leading to the development of new products, Product optimizations and line extensions.

  3.   Maintains all necessary documents required by R&D including:

  4. Drives the new product ideation process by conducting New Product Innovation Sessions.  Sessions incorporate new technologies, trends and processes which can lead to new products, line extensions or product improvements.

  5. Works cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Procurement, Quality, Finance, Co-mans, vendors and consultants to ensure successful execution of company’s strategy and implementation of R&D/QA projects and tactics; manages R&D meetings.

  6. Oversees product improvement projects including cost reductions and performance improvements.

  7. Develops finished product methods and directions along with shelf life validations including organoleptic and microbiological design and sampling.

  8. Provides direction to Temp Technicians or Interns working in the lab.  This includes training on all kitchen equipment operations, testing  and monitoring procedures and personal safety.

  9. Ensures a food safe and SQF compliant lab by maintaining/calibrating all equipment, ingredients and maintaining a safe work environment by training all participants.

Summary of Position:
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager is qualified to give direction related to food safety and product quality in any area needed in the plant. The FSQA must demonstrate strong communication and investigation skills particularly when handling quality related issues and subsequent corrective/preventive actions.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with auditing and training.
