Job Title: Account Manager - Western Region
Position Location: Central/Northern California
Reports To: Sales Manager, Western Region, Systems and Ingredient Solutions (SIS)
 
The Account Manager will be responsible to develop and maximize sales volume and margins through detailed planned sales coverage at existing and prospective accounts. The Account Manager will call on medium to large accounts with a focus on key strategic customers. As a member of the Go-to-Market team, the Account Manager will optimize profitability and grow sales of Ingredion’s diverse and expanding specialty products.
 
As Account Manager, Western Region your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Account Management - Develop strategic account plans to create long term value for customers. Plans are to include account strategies, defined objectives, milestones and specific opportunities. Establishes strategic relationships with key accounts to sell products, services and alternative solutions to create competitive advantage for the customer.

Relationship Building - Develop strong multi-level relationships between Ingredion and our important customers to drive growth and effectively address challenges that may arise.

Sales Strategy Development - Work with management to develop a business plan, demand forecast and sales strategy. Utilize technical understanding of food ingredients to introduce value selling or value price concepts.

Go to Market - Work with Technical Service, Marketing, Growth Platforms and other key stake holders to develop and close new opportunities. Conduct market analysis of customers, understanding market trends and competitive pricing.

Product and Application Development - Advise and work with customers to create innovative solutions. Designs trial plans utilizing the breadth of technical resources available to create innovation solutions.

Customer Value Creation - Creates solutions based on implicit customer needs. Apply deep understanding of customer strategy and an understanding of explicit and implicit customer needs to create value. Quantify and articulate the current and potential value created for the customer. Identify opportunities to solve customer problems with existing products or innovation.

Contract Negotiations – Create and conduct proposal presentations and RFPs. Negotiate contracts with customers and manage the development, accuracy and delivery of those contracts.

Financial & Budget Responsibilities - Develop and achieve budget and control expenses for sales territory.

Reporting – Maintain accurate records of all sales activity, including customer call reports, territory sales analysis, quarterly updates, and salesforce.com data, etc.

Market Analysis - Conduct market analysis of customers, understanding market trends and competitive pricing.

Communication - Develop and maintain effective channels of communication within the Ingredion organization in order to better communicate all issues related to pricing, market trends, sales initiatives, technical requirements, new product development applications, customer requests and overall market direction. Understand the competitive landscape, monitor competitive developments and activities of competitors in the marketplace. Maintain communication with customer service and credit to assure both customer needs and contract obligations are being met. Communicate with demand planning team for timely and accurate forecasting. Effectively communicate this information to management and sales team members.

Qualified Candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Food Science, Chemical Engineering) or business. MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years of direct sales or technical sales experience with focus in the food and beverage industry.
  • Proven track record managing and penetrating complex accounts at multiple touch points and delivering results; preferably in the food industry.
  • Motivated, self-starting professional with excellent communication skills both written and oral. Skilled at preparing and delivering both technical and business presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize a sales operating strategy which permits the identification of business opportunities and variables effecting the customer and market.
  • Knowledgeable in financial dealings with customer accounts and proven negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in functional problem-solving conversations with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel and Power Point), salesforce.com or other CRM experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the time

  • Manufacturing Line Support: Food Safety and Quality are always front of mind! Our line team see’s you as a trusted advisor on Quality. You will have spent the time to get to know each of our team members, and you will have a deep understanding of every process, role, and piece of equipment. You are performing pre-op inspections, line checks, and reviewing SOPs we have in place to ensure our procedures are accurate and support our goal of First Time Quality (FTQ).
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation: Quality systems are embedded in every step of our production, and you assist with keeping them alive! You inspect packaging & ingredients to ensure a high level of quality. Additionally, you help ensure that all products go through our positive release process. You will have become a product sensory guru—you know all of our flavors! Investigating customer feedback, you provide written analysis of your findings and conclusions. You lead the calibration program, ensuring our measuring equipment is accurate.  All documentation including daily paperwork, and record reviews are organized, filed and easy to reference. Any anomalies in our records are quickly identified and addressed. Conduct daily sensory analysis and quality control checks of finished products for positive release of dairy based products, fruit smoothies and flavored syrups.
  • Audit Support: You are ready for audits! As you grow your knowledge in our quality systems and processes, you will be integral to ensure Torani is audit ready all of the time. You will work closely with internal and external teams to fill any gaps and make sure we pass all audits with flying colors. From reviewing SOPs, recommending improvements, and driving them to resolution, you are involved in almost every facet of our audits! Additionally, you will help train our team on GMPs, and other food safety & quality related topics to help support our strong culture of food safety & quality.
  • Communication:  Effectively and efficiently ensures that others are made aware of pertinent information verbally and in writing. Passionate about keeping everyone "in the loop”.

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Department has an opening for a Quality Assurance Manager. This position is located in Dublin, California. 

Position Purpose 

This position is responsible for assuring vendor compliance with company food safety and quality standards. 

The position utilizes personal experience and expertise in the areas of food safety, food quality, good manufacturing, and sanitation practices to provide supplier assessment and approval status for external manufacturing sites. The position reports directly to the Senior Quality Assurance Manager for the Own Brands private label business. 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Manage the supplier certification process including carrying out risk assessment of supplier programs, conducting an on-site audit and communicating outcomes effectively to both internal and external parties. 
  • Manage the Supplier Quality Improvement Program and quantify its effectiveness by analyzing consumer feedback or process data and utilizing technical skills such as SPC, Excel, Mini Tab. 
  • Coordinate product recalls and withdrawals with suppliers and serve as a department expert for crisis management as it relates to product safety. 
  • Act as a liaison for regulatory requests and inquiries such as FDA, USDA, State Inspectors. 
  • Prioritize tasks based on risk, importance and urgency. Be able to meet deliverables in a timely manner. 
  • Provide support to sales and business by facilitating key supplier meetings, conducting site visits, and working through any quality or safety issues with suppliers until they are resolved satisfactorily. 
  • Ensure the manufacturing sites can deliver on the expectations set forth in the supplier agreement, Own Brands policies, product formulations and finished good specifications. Communicate any potential gaps and risk exposures to both internal and external parities as needed. 
  • Enforce Albertsons Food Safety & Quality Assurance Policies with suppliers. 
  • Review and evaluate product quality, come up with a continuous improvement plan, or work on corrective actions with suppliers. 
  • Create and communicate executive reports on quality related issues and address key findings across multifunctional teams. 
  • Remain current with federal regulations as they relate to the Company’s products, GMP’s and analytical requirements, and ensure with supplier’s regulatory requirements are met. 
  • Develop and execute the SOPs as related to the Corporate Quality Assurance function. 
  • Manage the supplier Certificate of Analysis program to assure compliance with product specifications. 
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance for Own Brands private label organization. 
  • Assist retail divisions in resolving product quality issues. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Microbiology, Engineering, or related scientific field 
  • 6 years Quality Management experience in a variety of food and/or general merchandise/health, beauty, pharmaceutical, cosmetic manufacturing, and processing environments 
  • Ability to analyze process capability data to assure compliance with specifications. Experience utilizing Process Improvement methods such as: SPC, DMAIC, 8D, Ishikawa, Six Sigma 
  • Working knowledge of AQL sampling plans in a manufacturing setting is preferred 
  • Supplier quality management, including audit experience, is required 
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety, product quality programs, preventive QC methods, HACCP/PCQI certified, GMP’s, environmental pathogen monitoring, allergen control and manufacturing process controls 
  • 2 years Quality Auditing experience preferred
    • GFSI (BRC, SQF, ISO 22,000, IFS, PrimusGFS) ASQ, or equivalent sector audit certification 
    • SA8000 certification or the ability to demonstrate knowledge of equivalent social responsibility programs 
    • Certification or working knowledge of animal welfare principles 
  • 2 years Laboratory experience is preferred 
  • Ability to motivate, manage, lead, and influence subordinates, peers, and superiors 
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Position Scope: 

The R&D Product Development Manager leads, and coordinates the technical activities of product improvement, innovation and new product development of Tropicale Foods in support of policies, goals, and business objectives. We are looking for a Production QA Supervisor who is comfortable in a manufacturing environment.  The successful candidate possesses a high degree of accuracy, industry knowledge and eye for detail to ensure 100% compliance of product and processes to company and regulatory standards. You will have the opportunity to improve our quality systems, and work on passion projects as you expand the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee programs, processes, and documents to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
  • SQF Practitioner for the site. 
  • Lead all Plant audits and 3rd party inspections such as by the SQF, QAI, FDA, Kosher, State inspections, etc.
  • Own and maintain the QA Manual and QA procedures.  Ensure employees understand and follow procedures. Train others as needed.
  • Trend Quality and food safety related issues. Own the corrective action and root cause investigation process. 
  • Establish a supplier quality program ensuring quality standards for the receipt of purchased products and materials in conjunction with the Purchasing Manager.
  • Maintain and oversee the master item specification files.  Act as gate keeper for new item additions and current item change process.
  • Conduct mock recalls and mock traces. 
  • Oversee, maintain, modify and/or implement product quality auditing for production floor.  This will include both quantitative and qualitative measures.
  • Conduct audits to confirm that coffee roasted and packaged adheres to the item specifications.
  • Perform or supervise quality analysis on raw materials, roasted coffee and ground coffee using appropriate instruments. 
  • Conduct coffee roasting for batch samples as needed.  Prepare tastings (cuppings) to determine coffee roasted meets its taste profile.  
  • Prepare samples for in-house customer tastings and/or to ship to customers. Prepare QA related documentation for customers
  • Oversee and maintain QA lab/Cupping room facility and equipment.
  • Conduct audits of outbound shipments to ensure Customer Shipping requirements are met.
  • Conduct training sessions in a variety of subjects for other employees such as GMPs, SQF, Organic standards.
  • Maintains a variety of records related to the above duties.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Food manufacturing experience at an SQF certified facility is necessary. Experience as an SQF Auditor or in facilities with similar audit schemes may be accepted.
  • PCQI certified or great understanding of PCQI such that you can pass qualification after hire
  • Ability to work cross functionally elicit support to ensure food safety, organic, and quality metrics are met by other teams. 
  • Experience in 3rd party organic inspections desired. 
  • Ability to recognize where process improvement is needed, and develop and implement new policies or procedures.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and follow through abilities. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage projects and.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment where continuous improvement is expected.

What You’ll Do

As a Mattson Food Technologist, you’ll be working on:

Product Development

  • Develop new products across multiple product categories and throughout all phases of product development – from initial bench development to commercial launch, while considering critical technical issues such as: food safety, food stability, shelf-life, scalability, cost, nutritional and ingredient guidelines, etc.
  • Understand culinary principles and apply them to technical development

About You

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in business, marketing, social sciences, food science/nutrition or related sciences or in a related field
  • Project management experience
  • 4+ years experience working in the food industry (CPG or foodservice/restaurant)
  • Brand management experience
  • Consumer insights experience
  • Agency-side client and/or engagement/project management
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Engaging, energetic presentation skills and ability to develop and create presentations to clients and internal teams
  • Comfortable advocating a strong and compelling point of view
  • Ability to take the initiative

Bonus Points

  • Business development experience or exposure
  • Food or beverage entrepreneurial experience
  • Food science/culinary degree or certificate
